I was born in Los Angeles, California, on September 23rd. I am the oldest of four siblings (2 sisters & 1 brother x-o-x-o-x-o). Unfortunately, as the oldest, I was exposed to too much too soon (abandonment, homelessness, and lots of transition). My family relocated to Orlando, Florida in 1988, and here is where I began to spread my wings in high school. I got involved in extracurricular activities such as art club, cheerleading and becoming a peer mentor. It was through the peer mentor program that I knew that I wanted to make a difference in the world by helping and encouraging others. I attended Bethune-Cookman University and received my Bachelors degree in Psychology. I then decided to return to school to receive my Masters degree in Counseling and Psychology from Troy State University. I always remembered Mary McLeod-Bethune’s motto: “Enter to learn, depart to serve.”
My personal goal is to open an urban bookstore/ coffee shop dedicated to individuals who desire a relaxing and comfortable Christian atmosphere. My bookstore will promote upcoming and prominent authors and their novels, and provide a platform for presenters to inspire and encourage others. The Women of Character Book Club will be the heartbeat of the bookstore. I would also love to coordinate an annual event for Christian authors.
In my pastime, I love to read, exercise, try out new restaurants, travel, and be in the company of the special people that God has placed in my life. I am a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. in which I am given the opportunity to touch the hearts of so many lives through public service. I enjoy using my creativity to plan and organize events. I am an active member at The River of Life Christian Center, where Marvin and Deborah Jackson are my pastors.
For those of you that need to be encouraged, I want you to know that despite the dysfunction and adversities that I have encountered, I always knew that the Lord was with me. So, if you are going through, don’t give up. Trouble don’t last always. Without a test, you will not have a testimony; without misery, there will not be a miracle; and without pain, there is no preparation for your destiny. Remember if the Lord can do it for me; He can do it for you. The scripture that I hold close to my heart is Romans 8:28, "All things work together for the good of those that love the Lord and that are called according His purpose."
Be Encouraged
